FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT KIND OF PAIN CAN YOU TREAT?

Interventional Pain Consultants can treat all types of pain, including acute and chronic nociceptive pain, neuropathic, visceral, and cancer pain. See What Can Be Treated for some of the specific problems we commonly treat.

I DON'T WANT TO HAVE A PROCEDURE DONE ON ME RIGHT AWAY. DO YOU OFFER CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT?

All of our pain physicians are experts in medical management of pain in addition to interventional management. Each patient and situation is unique and assessed on an individual basis. In many situations, medical management (conservative treatment) is all that is required to treat pain. Interventional Pain Consultants will always completely review each scenario and choose the plan that is most appropriate for each specific patient. Patient input is a large part of our assessment and we will never proceed with treatment that you are uncomfortable with. See Treatment Options for more details

I'VE TRIED CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT IN THE PAST WITHOUT SUCCESS. WHAT KIND OF INTERVENTIONAL TECHNIQUES ARE AVAILABLE?

All of our pain physicians are experts in interventional pain management in addition to medical management. As discussed above, each patient is assessed on an individual basis. As medical management may be the solution in some situations, in others, intervention management may be the answer. Some interventions that the physicians of Interventional Pain Consultants may consider include epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, trigger point injections, spinal cord stimulators, and kyphoplasty, to name a few. See Treatment Options for more details.

I AM STILL GETTING TREATMENT FROM MY INTERNIST OR ANOTHER PHYSICIAN. ISN'T USING A PAIN PHYSICIAN A LAST RESORT?

Absolutely not. It is true that pain physicians often become involved after treatment with other modalities fail, but that isn't always the case. If you have pain, Interventional Pain Consultants may be able to help you. Many of our patients come directly to see our pain physicians, bypassing their primary care physicians altogether.

BUT I DON'T WANT TO STOP MY OTHER TREATMENTS. SHOULD I STILL BE SEEN BY A PAIN PHYSICIAN?

Interventional Pain Consultants utilizes a multi-disciplanary approach to treat pain. In addition to providing treatments that other doctors may not, our pain physicians can coordinate your overall care with all of your healthcare providers. We work closely with healthcare professionals from all specialties including internal medicine, physical therapy, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and psychiatry. In addition, we work with professionals from non-traditional areas such as accupuncture, meditation, and holistic healing.

I'VE ONLY HAD MY PAIN FOR A SHORT TIME. IS IT TOO EARLY TO SEE A PAIN PHYSICIAN?

It is never too early to see a pain physician. If you're in pain, Interventional Pain Consultants can help. If you want your primary care physician to be a part of your pain treatment plan, that is fine. Our physicians will work with any of your physicians to help in your treatment. If you wish to see one of our pain physicians immediately without first using a different physician, that is perfectly fine too. Our goal is to get you pain free in the shortest amount of time possible.

MY PAIN IS BOTHERSOME BUT NOT CRIPPLING. CAN YOU STILL HELP?

Interventional Pain Consultants can help with any kind of pain, regardless of location, intensity, duration, onset, or cause. Whether it's debilitating pain from a devastating injury, or just annoying pain that affects your recreational activities, we can help. Our goal is for every one of our patients to become pain free!
